Required CE Hours for Renewal
All Licenses
- AS OF JANUARY 1, 2011: Agents born in odd numbered years and licensed before January 1, 2010
will be required to take 12 CE hours including 3 hours of ethics by 5:00 pm on the last day of their
birth month in 2011. Agents will then be required to take 24 CE hours including 3 hours of ethics
every two year license term thereafter.

Special Training/Education Requirements (LTC, Flood, Ethics, others)

Long Term Care -LTC
- Agents wishing to sell Long Term Care are required to take a one time only 8 hour Department
of Insurance certified course
- Each license term thereafter each agent must complete a 4 hour Long Term Care Partnership CE course that is approved by the department.

Flood Insurance Training
- An insurance producer who sells flood insurance may satisfy the minimum training
and education requirements by completing a 3-hour course related to the National Flood
Insurance Program (NFIP).

License Term
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2011: License term is the last day of the agents birth month every odd or even year based upon the agents birth year.
- 2011 renewals: Agents born in odd numbered years and licensed before January 1, 2010
will be required to take 12 CE hours including 3 hours of ethics by 5:00 pm on the last day of their
birth month in 2011. Agents will then be required to take 24 CE hours including 3 hours of ethics
every two year license term thereafter.
- 2012 renewals: Agents born in even numbered years and licensed before January 1, 2010
will be required to take 24 CE hours including 3 hours of ethics
every two year license term thereafter.
- Agents licensed on or after January 1, 2010 must complete 24 CE hours including 3 hurs of ethic by 5:00 pm on the last
day of their birth month every odd or even year based on the agents birth year.

Carryover CE Hours

Up to 18 CE credits can be carried over, however this does not apply to the ethics
requirement. Excess ethics hourse will be counted as general CE hours.

Completion Certificates
- Certificates of completion are available as soon as a course is completed with a passing
grade. Certificates should be printed and kept on file for 5 years.

CE Exemptions
- Nonresident agents who have meet the CE requirements in their home states do not have to comply
with South Carolina requirements.
- An agent who sells only credit life, credit health, bail bonds, travel accident and baggage insurance.
- An agent who is licensed to practice law in South Carolina.
- An agent who is with a trade association and sells bonds to association members only.
- An agent who has reached the age of 65 prior to July 1, 2006 and has been licensed for 10 consecutive years or who have reached 65
after July 1, 2006 and have been licensed for at least 10 years and no longer sell insurance.
